It is the final day of the 16th Sail Racing PalmaVela and there has been a good breeze around the dock as the teams prepare to do battle for the final time this regatta.
It is all square in the IRC class between Vera and Magic Carpet 3 and the big duo will sail a deciding coastal course today. Vera, with Bouwe Bekking as strategist, have the momentum and it could be a day for Vera – the smaller, slower rated boat today.
In the TP52s Quantum Racing have a one point lead but that is negligible in a fleet where any one of the ten boat fleet could win races today. Platoon are nicely poised in second and could well close out the win after winning the second race yesterday. Most interesting to note is that the results are very up and down, only Quantum Racing can claim to have finished in the top half of the fleet every race. Phoenix had a weighty day yesterday with an 8,6 while Alegre have been quietly consistent, both tied on 27pts.
“It has been a slightly odd direction to start WNW’ly and NW’ly but I guess the breeze will be pulled into the bay thermally and we should get a good day of 15-20kts. It should be a good day’s racing.” Said Jules Salter, navigator on Platoon.
In the Sotheby’s Mallorca ORC fleets the top boat remains Arobas 2 which was originally built from the hull mould of the ETNZ TP52.
